Hey Mama! I see you. I know what it’s like to go through pregnancy, birth, & now parenting a child (& I also realize how weird it is to be called “mama” if you’re newly pregnant).

So you’re pregnant…

Now what?

You feel so much - but at the same time don’t know how to feel about it. You thought when this moment happened, it’d be different - that you’d be in a different place. It’s not what you imagined it would be. Your plans, your future, your whole life changed in an instant.

You feel like you’re not ready. I was surprised to learn that most parents didn’t choose & plan the time of their pregnancy. So that means that most of the time it just happens. Nobody is truly ready for this journey ahead of them — you’re not alone! Becoming a parent is one of the biggest transitions you will face in your adult life. A range of emotions follows, and oftentimes even some feelings of grief & loss. These feelings can feel confusing if this pregnancy is wanted, but are completely normal. Pregnancy accompanies a variety of losses including: loss of the body you have known, your sense of independence, free time, the ability to eat & drink whatever you want when you want it, & the list goes on.

Pregnancy is terrifying - let’s be real. Even planned pregnancies leave you feeling inadequate & unprepared. Not to mention the hormonal shifts, your growing physical appearance, overwhelming emotions, changing mental state, & all of the unknowns of what’s to come. I mean, c’mon, you have to not only grow a human but also push that human out of your own body. You can’t tell me that’s not frightening.

You have approximately 9 months (or less!) to process through your feelings, prepare for what’s to come, & deal with the unforeseen circumstances.
